| Gas Transport Fire Protection Basics |
| From Time2026-3-11 |
Transporting liquid gas and hazardous materials involves high risk.
Once leakage occurs, gas can spread quickly.
If it meets a spark, ignition may happen within seconds.
For this reason, gas transport vehicles are normally required to carry fire extinguishers.
In most countries, trucks carrying LPG or other flammable gas are equipped with dry powder fire extinguishers.
The common sizes are 4kg, 6kg, or 9kg.
These extinguishers are suitable for gas fires, liquid fires, and electrical fires.
The extinguishers are usually placed:
• Inside the driver’s cabin
• In external metal boxes fixed to the truck frame
• Near valve or control areas
They must be securely mounted and inspected regularly.
It is important to understand their role.
Fire extinguishers on transport vehicles are designed for early-stage fire control.
They can help stop a small fire caused by leakage or mechanical failure.
They are not designed to control large explosions.
Proper vehicle maintenance, valve inspection, and driver training are equally important.
Fire safety in gas transport depends on prevention first, and emergency response second.
