According to Global News, a major fire broke out at a luxury five-star ski resort hotel in Courchevel, in France’s Savoie region, late Tuesday night, forcing the evacuation of dozens of guests.
The fire started in the attic of the Hotel des Grandes Alpes shortly before 7 p.m. on January 27 and quickly spread to the roof, sending thick smoke into the air.
At least 83 guests were evacuated safely.
Guests at nearby hotels were also asked to leave as a precaution.
More than 130 firefighters and dozens of fire engines were deployed and worked through the night to control the blaze.
Firefighters said heavy snow on the roof and the complex structure of the building made rescue operations more difficult.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Hotel management confirmed that all guests were safely evacuated, and emergency services continue to secure the site.
