Carbon dioxide (CO2) fire extinguishers are essential fire-fighting facilities widely used in offices, equipment rooms and precision instrument workshops. Different from ordinary fire extinguishers, CO2 fire extinguishers adopt gas fire-extinguishing technology, which puts out fires by isolating oxygen and cooling the burning surface without leaving any residue after use.
This type of extinguisher is mainly suitable for Class B and Class E fires. Class B fires refer to fires caused by flammable and combustible liquids, including gasoline, diesel, alcohol, paint and grease. Class E fires are electrical fires involving live electrical equipment, such as fires of computers, switches, distribution boxes and precision electrical instruments. Since carbon dioxide is non-conductive and non-corrosive, it will not damage expensive electrical equipment and precision devices during fire suppression.
Notably, CO2 fire extinguishers are not applicable to Class A fires involving solid combustibles like wood, paper and cotton, nor to metal fires, as they cannot achieve a long-term fire-extinguishing and smothering effect on such burning materials.
