A huge fire at a chemical packaging and recycling firm on an industrial estate in Leeds, UK saw flames and a large plume of smoke sent over the city.
The fire started at around 0150hrs (local time) on Easter Monday and saw over 100 firefighters responding to Tradpak in Armley. The building, which is close to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and the River Aire, was used for chemical storage and there was a large amount of chemicals and cylinders at the site.
West Yorkshire fire and rescue service used 15 fire fighting appliances, two aerial platforms and high volume pumps during the fire and by 1000hrs fire crews had been scaled back as they bought the fire under control.
Nearby roads were closed and buildings including a nightclub were evacuated and local residents in the city centre area were warned to keep their windows and doors closed due to the potentially hazardous chemicals on the site.
