Dry conditions and heavy winds led to a fire in a field near the Memphis International Raceway in Millington, Tennessee which ignited several cars in a parking area during an event.
Around twenty cars were burned in a field after the fire broke out across the street from the track during the Super Chevy Show event.
Fire crews responded around 4 pm (local time) and got the fire under control. Fire Investigators report a grass fire, possibly caused by hot exhausts from parked cars on the long grass, spread to other vehicles fanned by high winds.
It took two fire departments and two dozen firefighters a total of 55 minutes to put out the fire.
The races were delayed about thirty minutes as fans rushed to see if their cars were involved in the fire. Officials reported that the parking area involved in the fire is not owned or maintained by them.
