A fire that erupted in the kitchen of a fast-food take-away in Newton, a suburb of Adelaide in Australia, destroyed the premises causing at least $400,000 of damage. The fire spread so fast that fire crews were unable to save the building. A build-up of fat and no dedicated kitchen fire protection have been blamed for the blaze.
About 26 firefighters fought the blaze and managed to stop it from spreading to neighbouring businesses in the shopping complex. One worker was on the premises when the fire broke out and firefighters believe he was lucky to have escaped without injury.
Fire investigators were on scene for about two hours and found the fire was started by a build-up of fat while chickens were cooking. This then spread to a nearby flume before engulfing the entire shop.
The shop is not expected to reopen before Christmas.
