| Dutch firefighters afraid of electrocution after Telsa car caught fire |

| A Dutch citizen was killed on Wednesday after his Tesla car crash- and firefighters were too afraid to remove the body for fear of electrocution.
According to CNBC, the cause of the crash -which took place 25 miles of Amsterdam- is currently unknown.
At the time of the crash, part of the battery remained in the car as a fire started. The fire was reportedly quite difficult to extinguish, as well.
Firefighters were hesitant to approach the vehicle for fear of electrocution and it took hours to remove the body from the car.
While Tesla said it was “working with the authorities“ to determine whether Tesla’s autopilot driving assistance technology was involved in the crash, a Bloomberg reporter tweeted that Tesla said, “Thus far, we can confirm from the car’s logs that autopilot was not engaged at any time.”
Fire spokesman Ronald Boer said the firefighters were unsure if the car would still be under high voltage, given the severity of the accident.
Boer said that while the Dutch fire crews are well-versed in handling electric car accidents, firefighters were certain the victim had died immediately after the crash and it did not make sense for rescue workers to take unneeded risks in recovering his body.
“We know a lot about electric cars, but there are always going to be cases where something unexpected happens,” Boer said. “There are going to be educational moments.” |
